Job Description:Centerstone, a leading provider of mental and behavioral health services, is recruiting and employing Family Mentors to work with the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) START (Sobriety Treatment and Recovery Teams) initiative. START Family Mentors will work with children and families with DCS involvement in which one of the parents is abusing drugs. The purpose of this program is to keep children safe and to prevent placement in foster care whenever possible; to develop a safe, nurturing, and stable living situation for them as rapidly and responsibly as possible; and to help their parents overcome their drug problems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Family Mentors attend home visits determined by guidelines and the START supervisor. They provide some transportation assistance for clients attending treatment. Family Mentors attend all meetings involving providers and proceedings for and with clients. Family Mentors assist in ensuring that providers have the same information about involved families. Family Mentors provide a unique opportunity for support and resources to START families as they build their recovery plan, build sober support network, find housing, find employment, etc.
• Possess strong communication/interpersonal skills.• Commitment to and passion for working with families and children, engaging clients, and making a difference.• Ability to use a productive problem-solving approach• Knowledge of or familiarity with basic office practices• High School Degree, GED, or equivalent.• Three years of documented sobriety.
*Reliable TransportationPreferred Qualifications: • Experience as a former DCS client.• Experience as a parent advocate/family mentor and/or peer in any system.• Bilingual in Spanish
